Episode 33: Getting Real about Hustle Culture, Life Changing Money, and the 6-figure Chat
This week, I’m doing something a little different. I wanted to talk completely off the cuff about what it would really mean for you and your business to make life changing amounts of money.
While creating Plenty More, the team and I have been throwing around so many thoughts about how to make the money you want to make and have the impact you want to have without having to sacrifice your needs, values, and wellbeing. There’s a lot of nuance to this, especially when the idea of moneymaking has been shown to us in such a narrow way. For those of us who are traditionally left out of moneymaking, it can be a challenge to carve out our own space in the conversation, especially in a way that works for US, rather than the other way around. It can feel like we’re breaking into a system and challenging it all at the same time… and it can be a lot to break down.
To help make sense of it all, I wanted to let you in on the conversation, so I’ve recorded a completely unscripted episode.
If this sounds like a conversation you want to be in on, be sure to check out Plenty More, which is now open for applications! You can find all the info here: https://www.raydodd.co.uk/plentymoretraining
QUOTES
“Things that I've noticed about what it means for people like you and me to make money - people that have traditionally been left out of moneymaking - so much of it comes down to the ways in which we have been shown examples. We've watched people do this. It's been on TV. It's been all shown to us in very narrow ways.”
“A lot of capitalism and what we now would call hustle culture, a lot of it is based on the industrial revolution and the factories that came out of this. And the way that we now expect treat human beings to be like factories. So how do you measure the output of a machine: with the numbers of things that it provides us with… We now just put the results ahead of every single other thing. And we think that the answer to getting that result is what matters.”
“Someone else has decided for you that that's the amount of money you should have. That that's the right amount for you… We need to get clear about why we're making the sort of money we're making.”
“I need inconsistency because I'm a human being who needs rest. And I've spent a long time trying to fight being a human. And weirdly, it's not happening.”
